And the sky was so completely clear on the day that so many died.
The earth now spins faster after a compaction of its mass.
Que pena... no hay ni una palabra.

New 2005. New dirtyverbs.

cherry mistmars a ti y a los tuyos

I'm back. Sano y seguro all for the most part. Of course it was interesting, and there are stories.

I'm in Sierra Vista now, taking a week with my family to relax: drinking & hiking, hopefully in the opassite order. And typing up new poems. And not to mention starting work on Suzy La Follette's pair of new chapbooks, which Suzy has asked me to design. I'm honored. And they are going to rock ass when they are released in February. Reading over the manuscript, there is some great work in here that I doubt many people have heard. It's going to take a lot to keep myself from sneaking bits of the work on here as this thing starts coming together.

I'm posting this flyer again, just because this is going to be the best show that Flagstaff has seen since, well, at least summer 2003.

My first Halloween in Flagstaff I Fed X play at the 111, busted my lip open on the bass drum and couldn't tell which was fake blood and which was my blood. The Narrows have been on my turntable all winter long. Ponies album?

See this show.

Haitus. Haiku. Hai. Bye.

Dirtyverbs (the website) will be on haitus while Dirtyverbs (the dude) makes a much needed trip back to Querétaro to visit friends. And Esprring. Chelas, hamacas y por fin una chinga de español. Fíjate. So the next update won't be until around xmas. Happy holidays. Much love.

What to do until then? Damn I dunno. Waste time on the dirtylist or boing boing or something. Or maybe 10x10. Or do this. Better yet: turn off the damn machine & go outside & write.

Desde el sur por un ratito,
logan

And here's what I listened to en noviembre.

And in the end, again, it's family that saves me.

I spent the last few days in the "Valley of the Sun" mostly with family, but snuck off with Adri from Houston to the Slamology slam. It was fun surprising everyone by showing up, and it was great to spend Thanksgiving with some of my, um, extended family. Small crowd, but a fun and informal slam. Adri took it. I came in second doing silly poems because, well, "when in Mesa... " A great time.

Although Roomster Andrea says "No Thanks No Giving," it has still been good.

Regreso a Querétaro por un ratito...

Coming into the last few weeks of the season, things are going to be a bit hectic for me. A lot of projects on the plate:

  • Finding chairs for the FlagSlam / Flagstaff Youth Project
We are looking for people with connections & ideas about chairs. We need donations of money and tips on where we can find 100 folding, stackable chairs for the venue. I want to get this done before december 7. Ideas? Email me. Please.

  • Booking poets to feature during the spring season of FlagSlam

  • Organizaing a "film series" at the One Eleven
Emmett, Argent & I are starting a local "movie night" for indie/underground art & political film. We came up with this idea right after the successful screening of Fourth World War. First up is a movie called "Black & Gold" on Tuesday, 11/30 @ 8pm. (rescheduled for january) Come out & watch a movie, then stay & talk about it if you want. Donations accepted for the use of the 111. Cooler name for quotefingers Movie Night TBA.

  • Investigating the role of the Catholic Church in the Spanish Civil War
Go go term paper! The woodcut on the cover is from this project. Did you know the Catholic Church heavily supported Francisco Franco? Well, just a-check out these clerics giving the facist salute circa 1937! Great idea guys! Fuckin' yay God!

I like this one of Franco too:

  • Oh and...
I finally got a hold of Sonya Renee's website. Ladies and gentlemen, the next FlagSlam feature. Shit yeah. And thanks to Melissa & Thin Air, I'll soon finally have some audio of poems up on here. Bam.

feliz cumpliaños mi querida espring

Audio from the last FlagSlam is ready, it should be online in the next few days, when our beloved kdog has a spare minute.

I just watched a five hour documentary film on the spanish civil war. Straight through. Dios mío.

My roommate Cayson and I have been working on some music together this weekend. He just got an effects pedal that we've had hooked up to a mic, with pretty interesting results. I've been recording all of it. Poetry & drums is the idea. Combine that with some live tracks, I should have an album by late March. About damn time... until then...

Wanna hear some ridiculous shit?

Suzy says not to call her Suzan.

So, as you might have expected, the first FlagSlam at the One Eleven was out of hand. We rented 100 chairs and had a few more lent to us by Emmett & the city of Flag. We had glowsticks courtesy of Aaron Johnson. We had homemade treats by Score Mistress Betsy and Myra. We had an ever-lovin' crowd, and 15 local poets, many of whom were new. Not to mention the beautiful Suzy who convinced everyone that she hates her new home of Texas. Which isn't true: she doesn't hate Austin, or her girlfriend.

For the first time this season I noticed many poets repeating the same tried & polished poems that the slam has now heard a few times. I can understand the lure of goddamn dollars and wanting to blow up, but this is something I'm going to work to discourage in the future. It's about giving the up-and-comers a chance while pushing the more experienced poets to step out of what is comfortable for them. Everyone wins. Talk to me about it.

Again, I recorded the entire slam. This time, the audio came out PERFECTLY. As always, it will be available at the FlagSlam site in the next few days.

Check out this beautiful claymation short, if you'd like.

El misterio que es el ser humano.

Last night I slammed in Sedona and took second, which is the first time I've ever placed down there in a regular season slam. It was fun, two of of the three poems I did are completely new.

So I can't talk about it enough. The one and only innuendo master of disaster and lavender menace SUZY LA FOLLETTE will be featuring at the FlagSlam this TUESDAY night at the Studio One Eleven. Holy fuck this is going to be fun. Word on the street is that Betsy is going to make a load of homemade cookies and sweets to bring to the slam... yum. Ever since Suzan left Flag I've been waiting for her to come back.

I still don't know what to say about this past week.

I, for one, will be in the streets tomorrow night, hopefully celebrating...

The FlagSlam is moving out of Long Days Cafe. I'm done with dealing with a business owner who continues to try to milk our community for more and more money. Help us. Check out flagstaffpoetry for more info.

Recent jams updated as well.
