DJ DIRTYVERBS
DJ Dirtyverbs celebrates cumbia and tropical bass as a lengua franca to connect communities and cultures on the dancefloor. Dirtyverbs (aka Logan Phillips) got his start playing backyard parties and mezcal speakeasies in Cuernavaca, Mexico in 2007, after falling in love with cumbia sonidera in Querétaro in 2003.
Born and raised in the Arizona-Sonora borderlands to a family of Irish-Slavic descent and now based in Tucson, Arizona, Dirtyverbs was a resident DJ at Tucson’s historic Hotel Congress 2012-2022 and is an organizer and host of El Tambó (“Best Danceparty,” Tucson Weekly). He has played and hosted a number of Arizona’s keystone cultural events, including the All Souls Procession and the Rialto Theatre’s New Years Eve Party, playing both events annually 2013-2018. Dirtyverbs has played Montreal, Bogotá, Mexico City, SXSW and has shared the stage with Buyepongo (LA), A Tribe Called Red (Canada), Lido Pimienta (Colombia / Canada), Dos Santos (Chicago), Amadou & Miriam (Mali) and many more. Though a specialist in cumbia and other styles of latino music, he also mixes hip-hop, soul, funk, disco and more.
